What is Hijama?

Hijama, also known as wet cupping, is a traditional therapy that has been practised for centuries across the Middle East, Asia and beyond.

Cups are placed on chosen points of the body to create gentle suction. The practitioner then makes a few tiny, superficial marks on the skin and reapplies the cups to draw out a small amount of blood.

Hijama is a complementary therapy. It is used alongside, not instead of, care from your GP or other healthcare professionals.

What happens in a session

  1. Consultation

We talk through your health history, any medication and what you hope to get from the session, and check that Hijama is suitable for you.

  2. Treatment

Cups are applied to the agreed points, working to strict hygiene standards throughout. You can ask questions or pause at any time.

  3. Aftercare

You'll leave with simple advice on rest, hydration and looking after your skin over the following days.

Why people choose Hijama

Many clients use Hijama as part of their regular self-care. These are the benefits people most often look for.

  • Supports blood flow and circulation

Suction draws blood towards the surface, which many people find leaves the area feeling warm and refreshed.

  • Supports relaxation

A calm, unhurried session that many clients describe as a chance to switch off and unwind.

  • May help relieve muscular tension

Often chosen by people with tight shoulders, neck or back as part of a wider routine of rest and movement.

  • Supports general wellbeing

A traditional practice that many people turn to when they want to feel more balanced and rested.

  • Traditional wellness practice

Historically used as a way of cleansing the body. Scientific research on detoxification benefits is still limited.

Everyone's experience is different. Hijama is not a substitute for medical diagnosis or treatment, and we don't claim it cures any condition.

The Sunnah of Hijama

“The best of remedies you have is Hijama.”

Sahih Bukhari

“Hijama is a Sunnah practice recommended by Prophet Muhammad (Peace be upon him) and has been practised for generations.”
